Site Description and Birding Information: These quarry ponds harbour waterfowl and shorebirds in season. The northern pond is deep enough to attract diving ducks such as scaup, scoters and mergansers. A bar on the west shore of the northern pond acts as a roost for shorebirds, ducks and gulls. Listen for American Pipits flying over in late September through October. Gray Partridge can be found in the fields along this stretch of road.
Rare birds seen here include: Great Gray Owl (Feb. 8 to Mar. 8, 2006); Hudsonian Godwit (Oct. 18, 2006); Ross' Goose (3 on Oct.11, 2011 with a flock of 150 Snow Geese). During the 2004 - 05 "invasion", a Great Gray Owl was found less than 1.7 km WSW of here, at Frank Kenny and Giroux Roads, on Feb. 2, 2005.
