Site Description and Birding Information: The Pinhey Forest Reserve section behind the Nepean Sportsplex has a 3.5 km loop trail that goes through a variety of forest habitat, with a creek providing some wet areas. The initial section, Trail 30 is used as a fitness trail, but the far portions, Trail 31, are quieter. Locals birders often call this area Merivale Gardens for the sub-division of that name next to it.
Black-backed Woodpecker is among the rarities that have been seen here.
This area is adjacent to the Pinhey Forest Reserve: Slack Road area and the trails there can be accessed from the present site by locating the church at the far eastern end of the trail and crossing to Slack Road and thence to the parking area for those trails.
