Site Description and Birding Information: The Pinhey Forest Reserve off Slack Road is in an area of sandy soil and has a picnic area in the pines just off the parking area, P15. A 2.2 km loop trail (32) goes through the forest, much of it pine; and a 1 km loop trail (33) goes off trail 32 near its midpoint on the southwest side. Birds typical of pine forests are found here.
This area is adjacent to the Pinhey Forest Reserve: Nepean Sportsplex area and the trails there can be accessed from the present site by crossing Slack Road from the parking area and locating the trail behind the church there.
Birds to look for here are typical pine forest denizens and, in winter, occasionally less common birds such as Black-backed Woodpeckers (2 - Nov. 5 and 6, 2006).
