Independent Directions to this Site: From Highway 417 (The Queensway) take exit 122 (Parkdale Avenue). The eastbound exit ramp comes to a stop sign at Parkdale Avenue in 0.1 km and turns right or SSE. The westbound exit ramp becomes Westmount Avenue and reaches Parkdale Avenue in 0.2 km. Turn left or SSE onto Parkdale and in 0.1 km join the eastbound traffic. Both streams now head SSE on Parkdale 0.7 km to Carling Avenue. Turn right or southeast onto Carling and drive 0.4 km to make a left turn onto Fisher Avenue. Proceed 4.5 km SSE to Prince of Wales Drive, then turn right or south onto it. Go 3.6 km south to the turnoff, on the left, for Black Rapids.
Rideau River West Side Route Directions: From the Clearview Feeders area, return to Prince of Wales Drive and turn right or south on it. Drive 0.7 km to the turnoff, on the left, for Black Rapids.

Site Description and Birding Information: The area below the dam is excellent for gulls and waterfowl. The greenery around the grounds is worth checking for migrants in season.
A Gyrfalcon was seen just south of here in Jan. 1992. Bald Eagles have been seen here in Jan. 5, 1991 and Mar. 28 to Apr. 4, 1994.

Rideau River West Side Route Directions: From the Black Rapids area, return to Prince of Wales Drive and turn left or south on it. Drive 2.8 km south to Merivale Road and turn right or west onto it and go 0.3 km NNW to Beckstead Road. Turn left or WSW onto it and drive 0.2 km to Leikin Drive. Turn left or south on Leikin and proceed 0.7 km to park along the roadway for Clarke Bellinger Environmental Facility, the next site on this route.
